1、 Why is seamless square tube considered a "heavy-duty" choice?


In the field of steel structures, pipes are mainly divided into two schools: "welding" and "seamless".


Ordinary square and rectangular pipes are mostly made by cold bending and welding steel plates. Although they have high efficiency and low cost, there are always one or more longitudinal welds inside the pipe.


In civil buildings with low stress or mainly static load, this type of weld can usually meet the requirements; However, under heavy loads, dynamic loads, or high-pressure conditions, welds often become weak links in the structure.


The process logic of seamless square tube is completely different:


It is made from solid round billets as raw materials, heated to form hollow capillaries through a perforating machine, and then rolled or stretched multiple times to form.


Result: The entire pipe has no splicing welds, and the metal fiber streamline is continuous and complete, like a tree trunk, "seamlessly integrated".


This structural feature enables seamless rectangular pipes to exhibit far greater reliability than welded pipes when subjected to internal pressure, alternating loads, or strong torsion.


2、 Process route analysis: the difference between hot rolling and cold drawing

According to the different forming methods, seamless square and rectangular tubes are mainly divided into two categories: hot rolling and cold drawing, each with their own emphasis on performance and application scenarios.

5、 Key details of procurement and acceptance

Due to the high unit price of seamless square and rectangular pipes and the risk of using welded pipes to impersonate seamless pipes in the market, extra attention to detail is required during acceptance.


Searching for 'seams'


There are no longitudinal welds on the surface of seamless pipes, only spiral or linear marks generated during the rolling process.


If obvious weld reinforcement or weld seam excess is found, it is a welded pipe, not a truly seamless pipe.


Check the quality of the inner wall


There may be slight spiral patterns on the inner wall of hot-rolled seamless pipes, which are normal rolling marks;


The inner wall of the cold drawn tube should be relatively smooth. If there are obvious weld beads, burrs or cracks on the inner wall, it should be judged as unqualified.


Check the material and inspection report


Regular seamless pipes should be accompanied by ultrasonic testing reports (UT) or eddy current testing reports, as well as corresponding chemical composition and mechanical property testing data for the furnace batch number.


For critical pressure applications, it is recommended to request manufacturers to provide third-party testing reports.

Seamless rectangular pipes are usually directly related to the safe operation of critical equipment or structures.


Before placing an official order, it is recommended to provide specific design drawings or operating conditions (such as working pressure, load type, usage environment, etc.) so that we can assist in reviewing whether the selected material grade, wall thickness, and process route are reasonable, and optimize procurement costs as much as possible while ensuring safety and reliability.
