1、 Essence of Process: Re understanding "Electrogalvanizing"
In the field of steel processing, cold dip galvanized square tubes are often mistaken for the "reduced version" of hot-dip galvanizing, but in fact, the two are completely different process routes.
Cold galvanizing adopts the principle of electrolytic deposition: under the action of an electric field, zinc ions crystallize uniformly on the surface of the tube, forming a dense and continuous metal zinc film.
Different from the "high-temperature immersion bath" of hot-dip galvanizing, cold galvanizing belongs to room temperature operation and will not change the metallographic structure inside the pipe. Therefore, it can largely preserve the original mechanical properties and dimensional accuracy of the pipe, avoiding small deformations caused by heating.
This process characteristic determines the core positioning of cold galvanized square tube:
Renowned for its fine surface quality and indoor rust prevention ability, rather than focusing on long-term weather resistance in extreme outdoor environments.
2、 Performance feature analysis: Understanding the usage logic behind data
key metrics
typical characteristics
Analysis of Engineering Significance
Zinc layer structure
5-15 µ m uniform deposition
The zinc layer covers like a "film" and is suitable for rust prevention in dry environments. It is not recommended to directly use it in long-term outdoor rainy scenes.
surface state
Silver/Blue Metallic Gloss
After chromate passivation treatment, it has a decorative appearance and can be used directly as a finished product or as a high-quality substrate for secondary spraying.
Internal wall condition
The galvanized inner wall is relatively thin
Due to the influence of current distribution, the zinc layer on the inner wall is usually thinner than that on the outer wall, making it suitable for structural components or internal wiring conduits in dry environments.
Processing adaptability
Good cold bending performance
The zinc layer is tightly bonded to the substrate and is not easily detached during conventional cold bending processing, but careful evaluation is required during severe stamping or expansion processing.
3、 Application scenario portrait: precise matching, rejecting waste
When we provide selection consultation for clients, we usually judge whether to recommend cold galvanized square pipes based on the following three typical working conditions.
1. Commercial Display and Display System
Typical applications: Supermarket shelves, convenience store backboards, mall display cabinet skeletons
Working condition characteristics: dry environment, no strong friction, and certain requirements for appearance
Core value: Cold dip galvanized surface has a metallic luster, which can be directly used bare or coated with transparent anti rust oil, resulting in a clean and sharp visual effect, while also having reasonable cost control advantages.
2. Electronic equipment and cabinet structure
Typical applications: server cabinets, distribution box skeletons, control cabinet columns
Working condition characteristics: Indoor constant temperature and humidity, with requirements for grounding continuity and appearance consistency
Core value: The zinc layer has certain conductivity, high surface flatness, which is conducive to subsequent spraying or powder coating, and the coating adhesion performance is better than some hot-dip galvanized products.
3. Lightweight furniture and office facilities
Typical applications: Office desk metal tripod, file cabinet frame, sofa internal support
Working condition characteristics: Moderate stress, mainly considering rust prevention and clean appearance
Core value: Good straightness of pipes, regular cutting, suitable for standardized assembly line assembly, balancing aesthetics and practicality.
4、 Guidelines for Avoiding Pits: Clarify Not Recommended Use Scenarios
As senior practitioners, we have a responsibility to honestly inform about product limitations and avoid engineering quality hazards or economic losses caused by selection errors.
Outdoor unobstructed structure
Such as community fences, road guardrails, sunroom frames, etc. The thin zinc layer is prone to oxidation and whitening under long-term sun and rain exposure, and may develop large areas of rust spots in the short term, which cannot meet the long-term protection requirements.
High humidity or acid-base corrosive environment
Such as underground garage entrances and exits, seafood processing workshops, printing and dyeing factories, etc. Moist air or corrosive media can penetrate the zinc layer in a short period of time, causing corrosion of the substrate.
Heavy steel structures that require on-site full welding
The melting point of the cold galvanized layer is low, and welding at high temperatures will produce a large amount of zinc vapor, which not only affects the quality of the weld, but also poses occupational health risks.
If it is indeed necessary to perform local welding on the cold galvanized pipe, it is necessary to mechanically polish and remove zinc within a range of at least 50 mm on both sides of the weld before welding, and re apply anti rust sealing treatment after welding.
5、 Processing, Connection, and Storage Suggestions
1. Connection method
Priority should be given to bolted or riveted connections. If using self tapping screws, it is recommended to drill holes in advance to avoid zinc layer cracking due to excessive torque.
2. Surface secondary treatment
If painting or spraying is required, it is recommended to first apply mild phosphating or specialized metal sealing primer treatment to enhance coating adhesion and prevent "orange peel" phenomenon.
3. Storage and transportation
Please make sure to store it in a dry and ventilated indoor warehouse;
Do not come into direct contact with the ground. Use wooden pads or pallets, with a minimum height of 30cm above the ground;
During transportation, avoid direct scratching of the pipe surface by steel wire ropes or sharp components.
6、 Technical Services and Support
We are well aware that each batch of pipes ultimately needs to be returned to specific drawings and working conditions.
If you already have project drawings or technical parameter tables on hand, you can provide them directly to us for review. We will assist in determining the appropriate material grade and surface treatment plan based on your actual usage environment (such as load-bearing requirements, environmental level, connection method, etc.), striving to achieve a balance between cost and performance while meeting engineering safety requirements.
